Swamp Rabbit Trail: Greenville’s Ride Through Culture and Nature

The Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville is no ordinary bike route; it’s an ever-beating artery through South Carolina’s Upstate, linking riverfront parks, historic mill towns, and the local spirit along a scenic 22-mile stretch. To ride the Swamp Rabbit is to tap into Greenville’s vibrant pulse, where cyclists share the path with families, joggers, and the occasional heron fishing in the Reedy River.

In downtown Greenville, the trail launches with a grand entry through Falls Park, where a graceful pedestrian bridge arcs over the rushing waterfalls and garden paths bloom with color. This is the gateway to the ride, a lush beginning for what’s to come. Just four miles in, you’ll find the Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery, a beloved local landmark where cyclists pause for flaky pastries, fresh-brewed coffee, and a generous farmstand stocked with Southern produce. The café is more than a stop—it’s an invitation to taste the heart of Greenville.

Continuing north, the path opens to shaded stretches under tall oaks, and fields unfold beside you, offering pockets of cool and sunlit glades. Approaching Furman University, the trail edges along a quiet lake, a perfect resting point with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains that reward the journey.

At the northern end in Travelers Rest, the trail spills into a small town bursting with character. Here, spots like Sidewall Pizza and Brewery 85 welcome riders with wood-fired pizzas and craft IPAs—a satisfying end to the trail’s journey through Greenville’s soul. The Swamp Rabbit isn’t just a ride; it’s a celebration of community, connection, and the simple joy of discovery on two wheels.

We love this trail because you have many different areas you can jump onto around any area you are staying in, Greenville, SC. There is much to see on your walk and things to teach your children and family about, too. I love the easy and shady walk too. The sound of nature is exhilarating.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail was such a beautiful way to enjoy the Greenville landscape! We are not avid bikers, but due to the flat terrain, easily did 19 miles (9.5 out and back). It was very easy to rent a bike for half a day and still be able to enjoy the stops along the way--such as The Commons, Swamp Rabbit Grocery & Cafe, and Furman University.

A beautiful space for enjoying a bike 🚲 ride, or walking the 🐕 dog or pushing the stroller and taking the kids out for a walk or bike ride. Stretching from Travelers Rest SC and into the heart of Greenville SC, it's a beautiful trail 🌳🐿️ for any activity level or distance. Enjoying the outdoors and the wonderful weather 🌞 is a great way to spend time on the swamp rabbit 🐰 trail.

A+++ PROS****VERY Clean and kept up. Bathrooms were also clean and well placed. Several places to grab lunch that had bike racks to lock your bikes and people watch or bring your own lunch and eat at one of several picnic tables. I thought I wasn't going to be able to carry my weapon but the no guns sign was for the zoo. There was a bike shop midway which included a very thorough bike washing station. Didn't bring your bike? Plenty of electric bike rentals. The water falls were awesome but probably would have been better if it had rained in the last ten days. Plenty of play areas for kids with a water park, rock climbing wall see (drone shots). It even had a snow cone truck. Very dog friendly with pooey bags throughout. CONS****The trail isn't marked in some spots leaving you wondering if you were on the right route. We have recumbent bikes and there were 2 hills we had to get off and push our bikes. It was really to crowded to get a workout on the bikes. Could have been the beautiful weather and being a Sunday.
