Bellingham’s Top Mountain Biking Trails: A Guide for Thrill Seekers

Bellingham, Washington, is a mecca for mountain bikers, and its trails are a proving ground for those seeking the ultimate ride. Whether you’re chasing airtime, technical challenges, or breakneck speed, these trails promise to push your limits and leave you buzzing with adrenaline.

Unemployment Line – Galbraith Mountain

Airtime Awaits

Imagine a trail that feels like a master craftsman stitched it together—every jump, berm, and turn calibrated for maximum flow. That’s Unemployment Line. It’s not just a trail; it’s a love letter to those who crave speed and airtime.

From the first pedal stroke, the trail sweeps you into its rhythm: massive berms cradle you through turns while over forty jumps launch you skyward. Booters, tables, and doubles line your path, daring you to stay light and agile. The best part? Each jump feels dialed in, offering smooth landings and a pure adrenaline rush.

Pro Tips

  • Best for: Advanced riders who live for catching air.
  • Must-Have Gear: Full-suspension bikes and solid kneepads.
  • Bonus: Ride in the golden hour for stunning light filtering through the trees.

This isn’t a trail you ride—it’s one you remember.

The Horn – Blanchard Mountain

A True Test of Grit

Steep chutes, jagged rock faces, and hair-raising drops—The Horn doesn’t hold your hand. It’s a gauntlet thrown at the feet of riders who love their trails raw, unforgiving, and utterly rewarding.

Descending The Horn is a visceral experience. The double black diamond rating isn’t a suggestion; it’s a promise of relentless technical challenges. Each section demands precision, courage, and a bike ready for battle.

Pro Tips

  • Best for: Riders with advanced technical skills and a hunger for steep terrain.
  • Trail Warning: Recent rain turns this into a slip-and-slide—proceed with caution.
  • Local Legend: The Horn was designed to mimic Canadian double blacks. You’ll feel it.

This is the trail you brag about surviving.

Atomic Dog – Galbraith Mountain

Bite into the Challenge

Tight berms, rooty terrain, and heart-pounding descents—Atomic Dog is here to put your skills to the test. But don’t be fooled by its playful name; this trail is a beast.

The ride begins with an unassuming start, only to erupt into a labyrinth of technical sections designed to challenge even the most seasoned riders. Every root feels alive, and every turn begs for finesse.

Pro Tips

  • Best for: Advanced riders who love technical terrain with a splash of chaos.
  • Gear to Bring: A nimble full-suspension bike and gloves with extra grip.
  • Trail Snack: Grab a local pastry from Bellingham’s Pure Bliss before hitting the trail—it’s worth it.

Atomic Dog bites, but it’s the kind of pain you’ll chase again and again.

Evolution – Galbraith Mountain

Where Skills Are Forged

If a trail could earn you a diploma, Evolution would hand out PhDs in bike handling. Known for its technical descents and rock gardens, this advanced trail makes every rider earn their stripes.

The trail weaves through dense forest, testing your reflexes and balance with each turn. Expect rocky drops, slick roots, and lines that demand commitment. Ride it cleanly, and you’ll feel like a hero.

Pro Tips

  • Best for: Riders seeking technical descents and high-pressure challenges.
  • Pre-Ride Ritual: Stretch out those shoulders; you’ll need them for the rough terrain.
  • Post-Ride Reward: Hit Kulshan Brewery for a pint of local craft beer—it’s well-earned.

Evolution isn’t just a ride; it’s a rite of passage.

SST (South Side Trail) – Galbraith Mountain

Fast, Furious, and Flowy

Speed demons, rejoice. SST is the ultimate trail for those who crave a mix of high-velocity descents and challenging jumps. With every twist and turn, the trail builds momentum, keeping you perched on the edge of control.

It’s not just fast—it’s technical, with root-laden sections and features that demand constant focus. But conquer it, and you’ll feel invincible.

Pro Tips

  • Best for: Experienced riders who want speed with a side of technical spice.
  • Trail Conditions: Avoid rainy days—SST turns into an ice rink.
  • Secret Spot: Look for the view at the mid-point, a quiet pocket perfect for catching your breath.

SST is a rollercoaster you’ll ride again and again.

Whether you’re carving up Galbraith’s flowy masterpieces or braving the rugged challenges of The Horn, Bellingham’s trails offer a world-class mountain biking experience. Ready to test your mettle?

Amazing, world class mountain biking from cross country single track to jump lines to sketchy Rocky descents to pretty massive Rock rolls, even pro only jump lines! Anyone can come here and progress their skills.

Endless well marked trails winding through forests and clear cut lands with mostly slow moving trails and a mix of fast black diamond runs. Excellent parking lot with bathrooms.

Galby has all your nature needs for walking, hiking, running, and biking. Beautiful trails. WMBC does an insane job at maintaining the trails. Dogs are often out enjoying the trails as well.

This place was phenomenal. Absolutely blew my mind. Stellar trails some incredible views. So many miles of trails. It would take months to cover. Definitely kicked my butt. I was sore for a day afterward. Definitely was not geared up or skilled enough for a lot of it. Can’t wait to go back and do it again. 👍🏽👍🏽🤪✌️
