Adventure Guide to Hiking to Devil’s Bridge

  1. Trail Options
There are two main routes to reach Devil's Bridge: a shorter 2-mile hike starting from the Dry Creek Vista Trailhead (for those with high-clearance vehicles) or a longer 4-mile round trip starting at the Mescal Trailhead via Chuckwagon Trail. Both routes lead you to the bridge, with the final ascent including a steep, rocky climb that may require scrambling. The bridge itself is safe to walk on with caution, offering panoramic views at the top.

  2. Why It’s Special
Devil’s Bridge is famous for its dramatic views and enormity—it spans approximately 54 feet in length and sits 45 feet above the desert floor, making it both a rewarding and awe-inspiring destination. The natural arch provides a striking photo opportunity, especially around sunrise or just before sunset when the lighting accentuates the rich, earthy colors of the sandstone.

  3. Unique Features
Along the trail, hikers will experience an incredible variety of desert vegetation, from piñon pines to junipers. The transition to the steep rock staircase near the bridge introduces terrain that highlights Sedona’s rugged beauty. On approach, the massive arch becomes a striking focal point that leaves many hikers speechless.

Went to the Devils Bridge via the Mescal Trailhead. There was a parking lot and street parking. Great day for a Hike. Beautiful and clean. I would rate this as moderate. Easy uphill walking but the closer you get to the bridge the more rocks and vertical you get. Went midday and wasn’t crowded. Def worth it.

This hike was well worth the effort needed for it. The first 3/4 of the hike was not too difficult. The last bit that was very uphill was relatively difficult. However, my 6 year old was able to make their way up there and didn't have to stop near as much as the adults. It was an amazing hike with beautiful views and the top is amazing at the Devil's Bridge. My kid even went out on the Devils Bridge! We really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again.

This is a must see part of Sedona. Such a beautiful natural spectacle. I recommend it to everyone who goes there and this is my second time. It’s a very easy trail to start and then the last 15% is considered difficult with some climbing involved but definitely manageable for an experienced hiker. The bridge is wider than it looks so don’t miss an opportunity to take a picture on the bridge. In the busier seasons and times expect there to be a line to take pictures on the bridge. We only had to wait about 15 mins but I’ve heard wait times can be over an hour.

This trail starts off as easy to moderate but becomes more challenging as you approach the bridge. The hike is incredibly scenic and truly enjoyable, offering stunning views that make the effort well worth it. I visited on a weekday morning in mid-December and experienced perfect weather conditions, which made the hike even more pleasant. Parking was ample and convenient. Overall, I highly recommend this trail for those looking for a rewarding outdoor adventure.

The experience is fantastic and worth the effort. Parking is on the street at designated locations. It is highly recommended to bring at least half a gallon of water per person. The difficulty is low at the start since it is just a jog which starts to climb slowly almost unnoticeable. As you approach the bridge it gets tougher but only because it requires to climb up a bunch of steps, however if you take it easy and pause frequently it should not be an issue. The views of the surrounding mountains are fantastic. And when you get to the natural bridge, the sight is a great reward. The trails are well signaled.
