Super cool place to visit. We enjoyed the museum, but honestly most of our group enjoyed walking around the building more. Seeing the hockey rink where the miracle on ice occurred was so legendary. The whole complex is quite expansive, and you can spend a lot of time here without even having to spend money to see the museum exhibits. The gift shop was quite disappointing— lots of “Lake Placid” merch but not much, if any, reference to the Olympics.

This was a bucket list visit. I remember watching the US Men’s Hockey team beat the Russians in 1980 (I was 10 years old). The significance of that game can never be overstated. Walking into Herb Brooks arena triggered immediate goosebumps. I felt the museum was well done and just enough to not be overwhelmed with reading. Some have complained about the price ($15) but if it helps preserve the history of that site, it’s well worth it. Even with the traffic of the Ironman triathlon in town, it was well worth the trip.

Awesome little museum with details on how the Winter Olympics started and came to Lake Placid. Great displays showing actual memorabilia from past Olympics as well and multiple torches used over the years. You can go into the arenas where the 1932 games took place and the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” happened.

Amazing place to visit while in the area. I was only 9 years old when the Miracle on Ice occurred at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid NY. I remember watching it on TV but to actually walk into the Brooks Arena gave me goosebumps. Seeing all the those amateur hockey players names immortalized after improbably winning the Gold metal in Men's hockey that year was really cool! The speed skating oval track is right out front as well. The facility is immaculate and the views of the area from the balcony are fantastic! Definitely worth a visit! The museum was about to close we when we arrived so unfortunately we didn't get to see all of it.

I'm a big hockey fan and so I had to see the 1980 Olympic museum. I went into the museum during a break while attending a conference in Lake Placid. I was able to walk right in and purchase a ticket. It was a weekday, during the school year, so not busy at all. The museum is small, you don't really need more than 1 hour to see everything in it. But it holds a lot of history and some great memorabilia.
