Geology here is blunt and readable—uplifted sandstone and quartzites carved by seasonal rivers into canyons, caves and sinkholes. The area around Lençóis grew with 19th-century diamond prospecting; you’ll still find small towns built on that frontier past and local cuisine flavored with manioc and goat.
Day 1 covers Mucugezinho River, Vale das Piscinas, Gruta Azul and Gruta da Fumaça, plus Morro do Pai Inácio: expect about 140 km by vehicle (roughly 3 hours) and 4 km of walking (≈2 hours) across mixed trail and rocky steps. Day 2 visits Mosquito Waterfall and the Devil’s Well—around 80 km by car including some dirt roads and 7 km hiking. Day 3 focuses on Rio Serrano, the Hall of Colored Sands and small falls, about 4.5 km on foot.
Practical notes: fitness should be moderate—trails include uneven rock, river crossings and short climbs. Lunch is provided on days one and two; bring a snack for day three. Not recommended for people with serious spinal or cardiovascular conditions. Vehicles follow current hygiene and distancing rules; group sizes are modest. Bring sturdy shoes, sun and rain layers, water, and a light pack to keep the pace comfortable while you explore.
