In the heart of Brooklyn’s historic Navy Yard district, Kings County Distillery stands as a rugged monument to American craft whiskey. Their Dead Distillers Halloween Tour delivers a one-of-a-kind mashup of spirited storytelling and curated tastings, perfect for adventurers keen on history, culture, and a touch of the macabre. Taking place in Brooklyn, New York—an ever-evolving hub of urban grit and creative grit—the tour taps into the darker chapters of the distillery’s past, bringing to life tales of pirates, bootleggers, and outlaws who shaped both the spirit and the streets.
Visitors gather in the dimly lit spaces of Brooklyn’s oldest whiskey maker, where the air hums with the amber aroma of maturing barrels. The hour-long journey moves through eerie narratives inspired by the co-founders’ own book, Dead Distillers: A History of the Upstarts and Outlaws Who Made American Spirits. This storytelling is punctuated with a tasting flight of four signature whiskeys, each sip conjuring the intensity of an era when laws were bent, and spirits flowed underground.
The tour culminates at the Gatehouses, where the walls hold decades of secrets and cocktails are crafted with equal parts skill and mystery. Costumed guests are encouraged, adding an electrifying vibe, and the experience ends with a surprise that lingers long after the final dram. For anyone seeking a genuine blend of local lore, craft spirits, and a Halloween kick, Kings County Distillery’s offering stands apart as a distinctly Brooklyn adventure boarded on history and flavor.
