This stretch of the Tyrrhenian has a layered past. Amalfi was a maritime republic in the Middle Ages; its ports and coastal terraces carry that history in narrow alleys, ancient harbors and lemon groves that feed the local limoncello tradition. Geologically, the coast is folded limestone and marl—sharp cliffs, narrow fjords like Furore, and marine caves carved by wave action where light turns water green.
On a private full-day boat you’ll pass Cascata della Marmorata, Fiordo di Furore and Praiano, with time to swim or snorkel off quiet coves; the tour often includes snorkeling gear and regional snacks like fruit and prosecco. Expect calm stretches punctuated by the salty wind and short, sheltered anchorages for swimming.
Practical guide: bring reef-safe sunscreen, a brimmed hat and layered clothing for breeze and sun. If you’re prone to seasickness take medication before departure. Confirm pickup and port logistics in Salerno, carry ID and a small amount of cash for village purchases. Respect no-anchoring zones and local fishing gear; marine habitats here are sensitive to careless anchoring.
A day on the Amalfi Coast is equal parts shoreline spectacle and straightforward logistics—plan for sun, swimming, and the roadside history visible only from the water.
