This two-day, hands-on program is designed to advance sailors from competent crew to confident skipper using auxiliary-powered sailing catamarans ranging from 30 to 45 feet. The course combines skilled instruction with actual sailing practice in some of the region’s most protected inland and coastal waters.
St. Augustine itself is renowned as the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States, giving the waters you sail a unique cultural backdrop. The area’s diverse ecosystems, including salt marshes and tidal creeks, create a rich marine environment with frequent sightings of dolphins and seabirds. The sailing catamarans used on this course are especially suited for these waters due to their stability and versatility, making them ideal platforms to master seamanship skills and safety procedures.
What makes this program stand out is the comprehensive curriculum that covers heavy-weather sailing, emergency handling, navigation under power and sail, and boat systems management. Students gain confidence in handling large, multi-hull vessels that behave differently from monohulls, preparing them for coastal cruising challenges. The instructors are experienced sailors who bring practical knowledge and personalized guidance, ensuring that each participant leaves with tangible skills they can apply immediately.
Beyond the technical lessons, this course provides an immersive experience on the water with opportunities to practice docking, anchoring, and maneuvering in varied conditions. Whether you’re hoping to charter your own catamaran or simply deepen your sailing proficiency, ASA 114 offers a rare chance to take command of a vessel designed for comfort and performance.
