This stretch of Minneapolis grew from milling and river trade; the falls and rapids shaped a city that fed the nation. The neighborhoods you pass—old warehouse blocks, low-slung taverns, and a secluded alley cocktail room—show layers of working-class history, mid-century reinvention, and the modern craft scene. Geologically the river carved the gorge that made Minneapolis a milling hub; culturally the riverfront has always been where commerce, labor, and leisure collide.
Expect an easy-paced 2½-hour walking loop, with stops that favor neighborhood character over flashy presentation: a riverfront tavern with century-old bones, an island spot with local brews, a no-frills neighborhood bar with wings, and an intimate cocktail den in the Warehouse District.
Practical guidance: bring a government ID (21+), wear comfortable shoes for uneven cobbles, and time the tour to avoid commute hours and extreme winter cold. Public transit links close to the end make for an easy departure. Hydrate between tastings, tip your bartenders, and be ready to trade stories—this is as much a social walk through the city as it is a tasting route.
