York Chocolate Masterclass: Hands-On Truffle Workshop in Historic York

In the compact streets of York, England, a short detour from the city's medieval walls leads to a hands-on chocolate workshop. The Virgin - Introduction to Chocolate Making - Chocolate Masterclass is a two-and-a-half-hour, practical session that teaches tempering, ganache, truffle construction, and finishing techniques. Available Thursdays and Sundays, the class is built for beginners, home bakers, and curious travelers who want to craft professional-quality confections without being overwhelmed. Sessions open with an explanation of chocolate chemistry, covering origin, cocoa content, and why temperature controls gloss and snap. Under instructor supervision, participants prepare tempered chocolate for coating, make ganache fillings, shape traditional truffles, and practice dipping and decorating. Workstations are arranged for hands-on repetition, so every guest gets direct practice and constructive feedback. By the end of the two-hour-thirty-minute workshop, attendees take home roughly 300g of their own chocolates together with printed recipes and step-by-step tips to reproduce results at home. What makes this masterclass distinct in York is its blend of technical skill and approachable teaching. The city’s strong food culture and tourism scene reward experiences that teach as much as they entertain, and this workshop mirrors that local appetite. Small groups (capped at sixteen) create an intimate learning environment ideal for couples, families, and solo travelers seeking a practical skill. Key features: traditional truffles, professional tempering, ganache fillings, hand-dipped coatings, and neatly wrapped samples. Unique elements include in-class tempering instruction and a take-home quantity that lets you share or savor later. Practical details: duration two hours thirty minutes; minimum age five; group size sixteen; chocolate ingredients and refreshments available to purchase after class with a ten percent participant discount.
