About Jacob's Well Natural Area

Jacob's Well Natural Area

Jacob's Well Natural Area is located in Wimberley, Texas, and protects one of the most significant natural springs in the region. The site centers around an artesian spring that emerges from the Trinity Aquifer, sending water through a sprawling underwater cave system. This spring, which forms a beautiful natural pool, has historically been a summer retreat and remains a beloved spot for recreation and ecological study. The well is approximately 12 feet in diameter and can reach depths of up to 30 feet, with its caverns extending much further. Ecologically, it supports a variety of aquatic and terrestrial life, making it an excellent spot for nature enthusiasts and researchers. Recreational opportunities abound, with swimming being a central draw during warmer months. However, protective measures ensure its preservation, and swimming is managed under a reservation system. Hiking trails offer views of the surrounding Texas Hill Country's diverse plant life and scenery. Visitors can also engage in guided tours to learn more about the geological and ecological significance of the area.
