Moremi Game Reserve, in the heart of the Okavango Delta, offers a rich wildlife experience with diverse ecosystems ranging from water-laden waterways to dry savannahs.
Moremi Game Reserve, established in 1963, is one of the most renowned wildlife conservation areas in Botswana. Spreading over approximately 1,900 square miles, it covers about a third of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The reserve combines permanent water with drier areas, creating extraordinarily diverse habitats that support abundant wildlife, including the rare African wild dog, lions, leopards, African elephants, and over 400 bird species. Historically significant as it was the first reserve to be created by local African residents, Moremi is co-managed by the Tawana people. The wilderness experience is unmatched with opportunities for game drives, mokoro (canoe) expeditions, and walking safaris that offer both excitement and unique perspectives of one of the richest ecosystems in Africa. The reserve is home to the famed Chief's Island and features landmarks like the Khwai River region which offers superb wildlife sightings. Its appeal to tourists is heightened by the chance to see the Big Five and engage in truly immersive experiences in this remote haven.
