Double Arch

Double Arch in Arches National Park, Moab, UT, is a stunning natural formation that captivates visitors with its grandeur. Comprising two massive arches that share a common end, it showcases the power of erosion and time in shaping majestic landscapes. This geological marvel, formed from Entrada sandstone, stands out as one of the largest and most impressive arches in the park.

The intricate layers and warm hues of the sandstone create a breathtaking view, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light casts a golden glow. Double Arch is particularly famous, having been featured in movies like "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." The park, established in 1971, protects over 2,000 natural stone arches, but Double Arch remains a highlight due to its sheer size and beauty.

Simply breathtaking. Seeing two massive arches stretch gracefully against the bright blue sky, set amidst the desert landscape, is a sight that makes you feel tiny in comparison. The short walk to reach it makes it accessible for everyone, and once you're there, you can't help but be awestruck by nature's creativity. What's great is that even though it's a popular spot, Double Arch doesn't feel overcrowded. It's a place where you can still find peace and marvel at the beauty of the natural world.

We went on a weekday in January an hour before dark. Because of this, there is no line to enter the park, and very few people at the arch itself. The views were spectacular, and getting to be inside. The double Arch was amazing. If you are in arches national Park, double Arch is a must. The height is relatively short, about 0.6 mi total, and up until the actual Arch is very flat. Once you get to the actual Arch, you can climb inside and explore more.

Double Arch is absolutely one of my favorite rock formations in Arches National Park. The .6 mile, out and back trail is accessible from the lower parking lot in the Windows Section of the park. This truly amazing arch is a must see and well worth the short hike. To get the full perspective of this arch you need to venture right up underneath it. Also be sure to take in some of the other stunning rock formations and surrounding landscape along the trail.

If you want to make a small hike, this might be the place for you. But I personally liked Delicate Arch trail a bit more. As with any hike in Arches, bring a lot of water with you. There are dry toilets at the parking lot close to the trail's starting point.
