In the heart of southeastern Utah, the La Sal Mountains stand as a striking contrast to the surrounding red-rock desert landscape. Rising majestically above the terrain, this mountain range reaches elevations over 12,000 feet, offering breathtaking vistas and a serene escape from the desert heat below. The snow-capped peaks provide a stunning backdrop to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, making it a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
The La Sals are renowned for their geological diversity, featuring sedimentary and igneous rock formations that captivate geologists and adventurers. Seasonal wildflowers enhance the beauty of the alpine meadows, while dense forests shelter diverse wildlife, including deer, elk, and a variety of bird species. In the summer, the range is a haven for hikers and mountain bikers, with trails that cater to all skill levels. Come autumn, the vivid display of aspen leaves offers an unforgettable experience.
Explore the spirit of the West and enjoy a peaceful retreat into untouched nature. Experience this mountain wonder and create your own lasting memories.

Mountains like the La Sals are visually impressive and offer diverse recreational opportunities, but they might not hold the universal recognition of more iconic sites like the Alps or Himalayas. La Sal Mountains is a hidden gem of Utah that I am so grateful I got to explore and stay in the majestic scenic nature here. The temperature is a little cooler than down in Moab and the views are indescribable. I can’t wait to go back and explore the lands again!

We loved the mountain escape from Moab. Temperature was 60f on July 28 at noon. Sal loop trail was no joke.

Viewing them from Arches National Park in the early spring, La Sal mountains look just so magnificently pretty and spectacular. Bravo!

Yup! Get up in the mountains to bear the heat in Moab. This is some seriously remote terrain, very different from red rock country. We did a Jeep style tour with the family and it did not disappoint. With that says there are many trails to get your hike on and places to find your solitude.

The La Sal Mountain Loop Road is a beautiful 2 hour drive through some gorgeous high mountain desert landscape. A nice change from the red rock.
