Trailhead Location and Distance
Discovery Falls is located off the Gauging Station Road, accessible from US-276 within Pisgah National Forest. The trail is approximately 1.6 miles roundtrip, making it moderately easy for hikers of varying skill levels. Though unmarked, locals often refer to it as the “Discovery Trail.” The narrow footpath climbs slightly uphill before descending to the waterfall. Pay close attention to landmarks to avoid straying off the trail.

Beautiful falls and not too hard to get to. The first bit is a gravel road but the final ascent to the falls has decent elevation gain. The trail can be easy to miss so be looking on your right just before you cross the first bridge.

Discovery Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard. North Carolina. We have had over 18 inches of rain the last 2 weeks so the water flow you see in this picture is not normal. Because of the water flow I could not get close enough for a great picture. It is a fairly easy and short hike, as long as the gate that takes you to the trailhead is open. If it is closed it will add about 1.5 miles one way to tour hike. Call the rangers station and they can tell you if the road is open or closed. There are a couple more waterfalls on this trail also so do a little research and enjoy!

Amazing waterfall, but hard to access as the trail is not clear enough. As well there where no sign indicating any direction nor any Trail Blazers.
But I still highly recommend visiting this waterfall if you can manage to find it using gps.

My wife and I discovered Discovery Falls of Forest Service Road, FR475B which is located Western NC in Haywood County in the Pisgah National Forest. This one road leads to at least 4 obtainable waterfalls, including Discovery Falls, a 75 foot waterfall along a jagged rock face.
The hike to Discovery Falls begins at the trailhead for Seniard Ridge trail, also called FR5043 right by the small parking area. You'll pass by the gates, and follow the wide Forest Service Road down for around a quarter mile. You'll reach your first wooden bridge which crosses over a stream. Don't cross over the bridge or you'll miss the trail.
Just before the bridge and to the right is a small trail. Follow this trail for about .25 miles up to the Falls. The trail is considered easy until the very last section. Just prior to reaching falls, where it gets steep. The trail a pretty good trail though and easy to follow.
While tall, this isn't an exceptionally beautiful waterfall compared to some I've seen, especially when the creek flow is low. Visiting this waterfall shortly after a heavy rain is better if you can as the water flow is higher. We were lucky that there had been substantial rain the day before we visited.
The waterfall is somewhat difficult to photograph but crossing over the stream, and taking the shot from the left side is an option. I don't recommend this though unless you have proper hiking boots due to the slick rocks.
There are 3 waterfalls along this trail. Discovery Falls is the first of three, that are very easy to see. In fact the next two, are visible from the trail:
Log Hollow Falls; Upper Log Hollow Falls and Logging Road Falls.
We visited all of them and I'll try to review them too. 😀
